Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use the website, you acknowledge these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or record those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When you email us, the message is kept as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers automatically receive basic technical information whenever a page loads:

  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them
  • Any referring website
  • Date and time of each request

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device to help measure visits, popular pages, and points where visitors leave. Analytics providers combine that usage data for us. You may block cookies through browser settings, although doing so can change how parts of the website work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Operate, maintain, and improve site speed
  • Route a query to the selected search provider
  • Measure which content is useful or needs revision
  • Diagnose errors and other technical problems
  • Display advertising selected for possible relevance

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The content identifies where Vermilion County records can be requested, including the Sheriff's Office, Circuit Clerk, Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, and Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is never compiled into a consumer report or third-party criminal record.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by that partner's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider determines its retention and disclosure practices, which we do not control. Review those terms before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Vermilion County Sheriff's Office, court portals, Illinois agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you follow a link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may use their own systems to track activity across websites and select targeted advertising.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. It may be disclosed only to these categories of recipients:

  • Search providers processing a query you submit
  • Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks serving ads on the pages
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that an incident will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. Illinois protections include the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505. Illinois FOIA, 5 ILCS 140, governs access to nonexempt government records, while UCIA, 20 ILCS 2635, governs public Illinois conviction information. Those public-record laws do not turn this private website into a government custodian. At a minimum, you may:

  • Request access to personal information held about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Ask for deletion where applicable
  • Decline certain forms of processing where a right applies

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. Any replacement will appear here with an updated effective date, so review this page periodically for changes.
